ABOUT THE SOPHIA CENTER

SOPHIA is the Greek word for Wisdom, and for us it means Goddess Wisdom from the heart, Wisdom from the soul.

The Sophia Center, now a 501(c)3 organization, is on its way to becoming a school of Wisdom – the Wisdom of Sophia.

Sophia Wisdom is all encompassing and all pervasive throughout the world, having come to us through many forms, beliefs and cultures. For us, Sophia Wisdom recognizes and acknowledges Sophia-Gaia at the Center of everything we do. Gaia is the name of our Earth – Mother Earth. What we teach and what we offer must be in alignment with what’s good for our Mother Earth and her inhabitants.

We have chosen the five-pointed Star as the right energy to circulate the teachings of Sophia-Gaia. The structure of this particular Star acknowledges our sister planet Venus, who together with the Earth creates a five-pointed star, endlessly in her orbital pattern around the Sun. The head, arms, and legs of the Star of Sophia-Gaia are as follows:

Sophia Urania

URANIA: MUSE OF ASTRONOMY / ASTROLOGY

The Urania arm of Sophia offers courses in both western and Vedic (jyotish) astrology. We have an excellent group of well-trained teachers and practitioners of astrology that offer the following courses:

  • Beginning Astrology Level I, Level II, Level III

  • Beginning Vedic and Advanced Vedic Studies

  • Mythic Astrology Applied

  • Astrological Cycles for Counselors & Therapists (CEU’s available)

  • Intermediate and Advanced Workshops in Selected Topics

Sophia Hygeia

HYGEIA: DAUGHTER OF ASKLEPIUS, THE GOD OF DREAMS

The Hygeia arm of Sophia offers courses in archetypal and astrological methods of approaching dreams and the important role they play in the overall healing process of individuals. Course offerings range from weekly class series to weekend retreats to 10 or 12 day dream temple pilgrimages, such as the one Sophia recently sponsored in Greece.


Sophia Chironia

CHIRON: GOD OF HEALING

The Chironia branch of Sophia offers courses in wellness, acknowledging both ancient and modern techniques that incorporate Sophia (wisdom) and Chiron (alternative healing). Courses such as herbal studies and energy work are offered by a finely trained group of professionals, well versed in their practice and knowledge.


Sophia Pythagoria

PYTHAGORAS: FATHER OF GEOMETRY

This branch of Sophia offers courses in Sacred Geometry and the Geometry of Nature – the building blocks of the universe. Labyrinth walks on Sophia’s own labyrinth are conducted and workshops in labyrinth building are offered.


Sophia Artemis

ARTEMIS: GODDESS OF NATURE

The Artemis branch of Sophia offers programs in outdoor settings that incorporate ceremony and rituals, such as those performed in ancient times honoring the Goddess. Sophia Artemis offers drumming, movement and walks, and journeys to distant lands where goddess sites now exist or formerly existed, and where the feminine energy is recognized and empowered. Sophia journeys have thus far taken place in France and Greece, with an upcoming journey to Spain.
